Mantena’s extensive and broad experience means that Bane NOR Eiendom is extending the collaboration on wheel turning.
Crucial for train operations
Wear and damage make it necessary to turn train wheels regularly. This ensures a safer and more comfortable train journey for passengers—and extends the service life of the wheels.
For many years, Mantena has performed wheel turning for Bane NOR in Lodalen, Sundland, and Marienborg. The collaboration means that Mantena leases lathes and premises from Bane Nor and uses these facilities to turn wheels for train operators. The previous contract was signed in 2018, and the agreement is now being extended by two years.
– Wheel turning is absolutely essential for train operations, and thus a critical part of Railway Norway. Mantena has long and broad experience in cost-effectively turning wheels for train operators, and we are very pleased that Bane NOR is now extending this agreement, affirms Joachim Lunde Nærø, Commercial Manager at Mantena.
Assisting with expertise and personnel
During the next two-year period, major projects will also be carried out on the wheel lathes in Lodalen and Marienborg. In Lodalen, the old lathe will be replaced with a new and modern lathe. At Marienborg, the lathe is scheduled to be upgraded, and changes will be made to the workshop to enable trains to pass through during wheel turning. This is a necessary upgrade, but will temporarily reduce turning capacity.
In this context, Mantena has been tasked with assisting Bane NOR with expertise and personnel to minimize the impact on train operations.
– Mantena has very experienced and skilled employees in the field of wheel turning, and I look forward to continued good cooperation, says Hilde Møllhausen, Regional Manager, Bane NOR Eiendom.
