Sustainability
Good and responsible maintenance
Mantena’s main goal is to provide good and responsible maintenance of railway vehicles.
We have a holistic approach to quality, and work every day, all year round, to ensure safe trains, satisfied customers, and sustainable solutions.
Safe train journeys for the end user
Trains run at high speed, loaded with freight and passengers—through developed and populated areas. Therefore, safety and a secure end product are absolutely crucial.
Safety first!
At Mantena, we put Safety first! and we work every single day to maintain and further develop a strong safety culture among our employees.
Routines and processes
We have effective routines, processes, and training programs that form the basis for how our employees carry out the various maintenance tasks.
System support and data-driven maintenance
At the same time, we have strong system support in our maintenance management system Maximo and are continuously working to become increasingly data-driven.
We have all necessary certifications required to deliver in accordance with current requirements and standards.
Delivering customer value—every day
To deliver customer value every single day, the train needs to depart and arrive on time and provide a good customer experience (e.g., comfort, working toilets, internet, and good information).
There is a large value chain with many actors contributing to this and affecting the end product—the journey.
Planning and re-planning
For us at Mantena, it’s about good planning and coordination of maintenance tasks in relation to the timetable. At the same time, it’s about our employees’ flexibility and ability to re-plan and adapt quickly when events occur. Events that impact the plan happen every single day.
Delivery culture
Our delivery culture is crucial to our success. At Mantena, we go to work to keep the trains in the Nordics running—every single day, around the clock.
Value preservation and life extension
Extending the lifespan of railway vehicles and components is one of the most important sustainability measures within vehicle management. It’s about taking good care of what we have so we don’t need to buy new as often.
Correcting faults and damages continually, upgrading when needed
This naturally involves following maintenance programs and performing work with high quality. But it’s also about correcting faults and damages on an ongoing basis and upgrading when needed. Our customer Flytoget is a good example of a company that has done exactly this.
Obsolete management
When a train’s parts are no longer in production, Mantena carries out, among other things, obsolete management, something we have become skilled at in Norway and Sweden, with many trains having exceeded their technical lifetime.
Cost-effective maintenance
Maintenance accounts for 30-40% of a train’s operating costs, so it is important to maintain good control of the costs and to actively drive maintenance development.
The Mantena Way
At Mantena, we continuously work on the development and improvement of our operations. Our leaders and employees are focused on streamlining each contract and department, while standardizing and learning across teams.
Supplier development
We actively work to secure the best terms and find new alternative suppliers who meet our and our customers’ strict quality requirements.
Maintenance development
Mantena engages in extensive maintenance development through close collaboration between our maintenance staff (in the workshops) and our engineers. Customers, suppliers, and authorities are involved in this work.
We conduct maintenance development on several fronts:
- Streamlining of maintenance programs
- Data-driven maintenance
- Process automation
- Implementing new technology
The railway is part of the solution, and Mantena’s main goal is to provide responsible and effective maintenance of railway vehicles. In this way, we help shift people and freight from road to rail.
We aim to do this in a sustainable way. We take a comprehensive approach to sustainability.
