Vy extends the agreement for maintenance of Flirt bogies

4. October 2024

Mantena will deliver heavy maintenance on Vy’s most used train sets for four more years.

– We are very pleased with the extension of this contract with Mantena. In order for us to provide excellent customer experiences every day, we depend on thorough, high-quality maintenance. We are completely confident that Mantena is the right provider for maintenance of the trains’ bogies, says Hans Bendik Eriksen, Director of Rolling Stock and Quality at Vy.

Close cooperation

The original agreement with Mantena for maintenance of the bogies – that is, the trains’ undercarriages – expires in 2026. Now that Vy has exercised the option, Mantena will continue this maintenance until 2029. The contract has a value of around NOK 500 million during the option period.

– This is an important contract for Mantena, and we are of course extremely pleased and grateful that Vy has chosen to exercise the option for another four years.

This is stated by Tore Løveid, Director of Products and Projects at Mantena. He continues:

– Vy is an extremely important operator on the Norwegian railway and a customer Mantena knows well. Through close cooperation, we will ensure quality and precision in the maintenance, so that Mantena contributes to fulfilling Vy’s societal mission – and helps Vy achieve its goals of providing excellent customer experiences and being an industry leader in innovation.

Locally sourced expertise and capacity

Vy’s 150 FLIRT train sets transport passengers in Eastern Norway and also operate on the Vossebanen and Gjøvikbanen lines. The trains are produced by Stadler and are often referred to as the backbone of Norwegian railways.

– The volume contributed by the contract gives us scope and opportunity to continue developing the department for heavy component maintenance – so that we remain the leading player in this field in Norway and the Nordics. The agreement also ensures expertise and capacity for locally sourced maintenance, Løveid emphasizes.
